Windows 10 is expected to have this fixed by October, 2021.
I have just hooked the splitter up again and can confirm that all works well now. I am using power settings to turn off monitors.

Found out that I can use the onboard graphics at the same time as my graphics card. Retired the splitter now although not as good. Maybe a soultion ...
