Miracast is a wireless interface for transmitting video and audio, allowing the transfer of images and sound from one device to another without wires. Miracast technology is widely used in modern electronics, including laptops, smartphones, and TVs, making it popular for creating wireless workspaces.
Connecting an Additional Monitor via Miracast (Wireless Monitor):
- Compatibility Check: Before starting, ensure your computer and TV or monitor support Miracast. If your monitor or TV does not support Miracast, you can use a Miracast Video Adapter to solve this issue.
- Connecting:
- On a Windows 10 or later computer, press Win+K. In the menu that appears, select “Connect to a wireless display.”
- Your computer will start searching for available devices. Choose your TV or monitor from the list of found devices. The connection process might take a few seconds.
Modes for Connecting an Additional Monitor:
- Duplication: This mode allows the same image to be displayed on both screens.
- Extension: This allows the additional screen to be used as an extension of your primary screen’s workspace. Use Win+P to choose the connection mode.
Using ASTER Software: ASTER software allows one computer to be transformed into multiple workstations using additional monitors, keyboards, and mice, essentially making it a multi-user computer. With ASTER, you can configure each monitor for a different user, enabling multiple people to use one PC simultaneously. This is particularly relevant for creating wireless workspaces where the system unit can be placed in a clean area, protecting it from contamination in dirty production environments.
Advantages of a Wireless Workspace:
- Mobility: Wireless workspaces can be set up in adjacent rooms or different corners of the same room without the need for cables.
- Limitations:
- Consider the range limitation of wireless transmission via Miracast and Bluetooth, which can affect the placement of workstations.
- Also, note that Miracast connections might be unstable, potentially requiring reconnection.
Miracast Support:
- Windows: Miracast is supported starting from Windows 8.1.
- Linux: Miracast support can be implemented with the MiracleCast program on various Linux distributions.
