Work, study and internet surfing

ASTER allows you to create several workplaces to work with MS Office, internet surfing, email, etc. It is necessary to set up hardware and workplaces. Then to install internet browsers. Isolating disks and USB drivers between the users can be attained using built-in Windows tools, and ASTER.

Multimedia, Smart Home

ASTER allows you to turn any PC into a home multimedia center, and any TV into a Smart TV: connect the TV and keyboard/mouse to a PC with ASTER installed and you can play games, watch movies from the internet or home archives on a large TV screen. A computer with ASTER installed becomes the center of “Smart Home” (conception 1Home1PC!). If the TV is in the next room then see how to connect workplace in long distance. Another possibility is to connect the TV via wireless connect using Miracast.

Games

ASTER allows you to run most games on multiple workplaces. However, many games have a protection system preventing running of a second instance, using shared resources, etc. So then require a special application to run them. For example showing how to run games on several workplaces, please check it out on our forum or our Youtube channel.

Mobile devices

With ASTER, mobile devices like tablets, smartphones can be used as terminal devices. To do this, you need to install an application like Splashtop or Spacedesk. or you can also use standard remote access programs – once connected, you will be able to use Windows programs on mobile devices and will always be connected to the host computer, even while on the road or far away from the main office.

Remote access to PC

When you need to remote your computer, but Windows blocks the desktop during remote sessions, this causes you to allocate a separate computer for these tasks. Solve remote access issue in ASTER This problem: You can select the second workplaces created by ASTER for remote session, which first workplace continues to do their own work, both output of the video card must be connected to the monitor inputs (you can switch between them via the monitor controls – “video source” option)

Convenience to work alone

The most important thing is that with the help of ASTER, it is even more convenient for one person to use a computer than just an extended desktop. Because the places are exactly “independent”, you do not need to collapse the game, which is running in full-screen mode, to do something on the second monitor, at least switch the video, track, go to the browser, text editor, and so on. You can also separate the audio output for your own use cases.

Family budget saving during COVID-19

During COVID-19 pandemic families face a lack of computers at home. Parents work remotely. Children study remotely. All of them need computers during working days. Some families cannot afford such big expenses on purchasing new computers. Especially multi children families. The ASTER program allows reducing family budget on making new workplaces for family members. The ASTER gives an opportunity to create several workplaces based on 1 PC for every family member.

Monitors:
23.8 ” DELL S2415H monitor (The first one is connected to the video card in DisplayPort via an HDMI-DisplayPort adapter)
23.8 ” DELL S2415H monitor (The second one is connected to the video card in the HDMI port) keyboards, 3 mice (one wired mouse on the first workplace, on the second-two mice, one of which is wireless).

When two people are playing any game at the same time, the first workplace has audio output to headphones connected to the motherboard, the second workplace has audio output to headphones connected via an external USB audio card. The microphone is used from the Logitech C310 webcam (Made “General”).
Also, the monitors have built-in speakers, in ASTER, the audio output is configured as follows:
The built-in speakers of each monitor are configured for the appropriate workplace.
Headphones connected to the motherboard are made “Shared”.
The second pair of headphones is connected via a USB audio card and is used at the second workplace individually, when two people are sitting at the computer.
If you put the audio output at each workplace on your monitor, then when you select headphones connected to the motherboard and made “GENERAL” on ANY of the workstations, the audio output automatically switches to those headphones that are connected to the motherboard at each workplace. The sound goes to the same headphones from both workstations. After that, if necessary, the person at the second workplace simply switches the sound back to the monitor in the” tray ” in the system. Headphones can also be connected to the monitor via a mini-jack. But I stopped doing this, because the port on the monitor does not work well. Therefore, I either output the sound to the built – in speakers of the monitor, or to headphones connected via a USB audio card and made in ASTER individual for a specific workplace.
ASTER is used even if one person is sitting at the computer, since you can play any game and, without minimizing it, turn on at least something in the second workplace (YouTube, any media file, etc.). In this case, a wireless mouse is used to control the second workplace.

I tested CS GO the most. Since it is possible to run two versions of Steam through Sandboxie, but it does not allow you to play on Steam servers (it gives an error), then the Non-steam version of CS GO is launched for the second place. Accordingly, you can only play on certain servers and you will not be able to play in the official match-making. As people wrote above, if Steam is running on one workplace, then when opening it on another workplace, it closes on the previous one. CS GO settings are quite low (Resolution 1280×960-4:3 extended, without stripes). The system also pulls the maximum settings on two at the same time, but I’m used to playing on the low ones (namely in CS GO). FPS 250-300.
Moreover, the microphone in the game is used from one webcam (“general” in the ASTER settings) by EACH workplace.

Installed in the same way:
Origin
Battle.net
EpicGames
UPlay

I have tested many games while using the browser at the same time or re-producing media files on a second workplace, some of them:
Battlefield 1 (Settings-Ultra, FullHD resolution) – FPS 90-110
Grand Theft Auto V (Settings-Maximum, FullHD resolution) – FPS 70-80 (But in GTA 5 you can load the video card very much, in the settings it is loaded on 4.5-5 GB out of 6 GB)
Mafia II Definitive Edition (Settings-Maximum, FullHD resolution) – FPS 90-110
Battlefield ™ V (Settings-High, FullHD resolution) – FPS 70-80
Beyond – Two Souls-vertical synchronization is enabled, settings are almost maximum
STAR WARS Battlefront II (Settings-High, FullHD resolution) – FPS 70-80
Detroit Become Human-vertical synchronization is enabled, settings are almost maximum
Marvels Avengers-Settings are high, but there are drawdowns up to about 40 FPS
Horizon Zero Dawn ™ Complete Edition – (Settings-High, FullHD resolution) – FPS 60-80
In each of the following games, the resolution is FullHD and the graphics settings are about-maximum, or high, so that the FPS is above 60:
Far Cry 3,4
Metro: Exodus
Assassin’s Creed: Origins
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Forza Horizon 4
Resident Evil 2 Remake
City Car Driving
Assassin’s Creed Unity
Forza Horizon 3
Borderlands 3
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
Need for Speed: Payback
Call of Duty: WWII
Shadow of the Tomb Raider
Watch Dogs 2
Subnautica
DiRT Rally 2.0
Control
Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus
Batman: Arkham Knight
FIFA 19,20,21
DiRT 4
Metro: Last Light
Red Dead Redemption 2
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
Wolfenstein: The New Order
About 20-30 more games, absolutely all started, but I always play only CS GO and Battlefield 1
It is logical that when playing on one slave. If you start browsing YouTube and similar services, especially including video quality above FullHD, the FPS in the game sags.

From the programs I constantly use:
µTorrent – (auto-upload to the first workplace)
TeamViewer – (auto-upload also on the first workplace) – accordingly, I get remote access only to the first workplace
VNC Server-started on the first workplace
VNC Viewer – I run it on any of the jobs, when I close it on another one
Serviio-media server for DLNA on the local network – (autoloading on the first workplace)
Moonlight from NVIDIA, I use it to broadcast the screen of the first workplace (in the System32 folder – mstsc.exe)
Camera Server-instead of Ivideon Server-auto-upload to the first workplace
VEGAS Pro 17.0
Msi Afterburner – (auto-upload to the first workplace)

Browsers:
Opera
Chrome
Brave
Opera GX
Since both jobs have the same account, when you open a browser on one of the jobs, you can’t open the same browser on the other. (One account for both jobs is special, because the jobs are not assigned to a specific person, I or my brother sits down for an empty seat)

It is convenient that downloading any file at one workplace, this file will also be available to the second one. To exchange text, links, and the like, a text file is created on the desktop, you just insert the right one into it, save it, and open the file at another workplace and get the data (Crutch, without using a social network or messenger)
